Set the thrust requirement
Required static thrust (kgf) = maximum takeoff weight (kg) × target thrust-to-weight ratio. Fixed-wing targets span 0.15–0.45; VTOL targets span 1.30–1.50.
PROPULSION / PRELIMINARY SIZING
Start with takeoff weight. See the thrust you need, the units it takes, and the power and mass behind each choice.
Standard · One EDF model · One unit or an even number
Standard quantity takes priority over Extended after eligibility checks. The alternatives retain useful engineering tradeoffs; this is a policy-based initial choice.

THE SIZING METHOD
Required static thrust (kgf) = maximum takeoff weight (kg) × target thrust-to-weight ratio. Fixed-wing targets span 0.15–0.45; VTOL targets span 1.30–1.50.
Each candidate uses one model: 60 kgf / 22 kW / 10 kg, 200 kgf / 50 kW / 35 kg, or 500 kgf / 160 kW / 90 kg per unit. Round the required count up, then round odd counts above one to the next even number.
Filter by quantity and thrust oversizing, prefer Standard to Extended, then compare power, mass, quantity and oversizing. The final selection balances relative power and mass costs without a fixed weighted score.
A thrust calculator estimates a fan’s output from inputs such as diameter and power. This sizing calculator starts with aircraft type, MTOW and target T/W, then selects quantities from three specified Yuntu EDF models using their rated data.
MTOW is the total aircraft mass at takeoff, including the airframe, propulsion, energy system, payload and other equipment. Enter total takeoff weight, rather than payload alone.
The input range applies to target T/W. Discrete unit quantities can produce more thrust than requested. Eligibility is checked against the total-thrust oversizing limit, which defaults to 1.5×.
The current preliminary policy classifies VTOL quantities below four as Special. They require a custom layout assessment. A raw requirement of three is rounded up to four before eligibility is evaluated.
No. Installed rated power is quantity multiplied by unit rated power, and EDF mass covers the units alone. Battery sizing, actual mission consumption, cooling, installation and endurance require a separate engineering model.
Review each model’s exclusion reasons or export the result for an engineering discussion. The calculator does not automatically relax the oversizing limit, mix models or use maximum thrust.
